Spent the week doing just about nothing. Lounging in our spa, indulging in massages, eating far too much food, drinking ginger tea by the gallon, and cuddling with the boy and puppy in two hour increments. Happiness can often be so simple. Surround yourself with those who make you smile and that smile may never leave your face. With the next two and a half months being full of planning and preparation, I’ve began to learn to concentrate on positives and ignore any other noise. Take and learn from where you can, but at the end of the day you know what makes your world turn. Now is the time to make sure sleep, laughter, and warm hearts are top priority.

Having 24 hours of laziness all to myself. Partaking in chocolate brownie indulgence and a lot of Gossip Girl reruns. Chilly weather awakens my peppermint tea and snuggly sweater addiction in a way only London can accomplish. Less than a week left of our trip. I plan on delving into a few more vintage markets and unveiling hidden treasures to prepare and update our HK home. For now a quick nap is awaiting.

The boy and I are having fun playing tourist during our trip in London. We’ve lived here for years, burrowed into the depths of Notting Hill and enjoying all the neighbourhood quirks the area had to offer. Staying in North London for a few weeks is a new novelty for us, so we are taking the opportunity to shop the many boutiques, cozy up in inviting pubs, and exploring food markets bursting with mulled wine and melted cheese. Despite blistering rain and wind, we are finding ways to keep toasty with genuine smiles and laughs dominating each day. Long getaways are the best way to drift away from reality.

Stepping into the first few days of the new year and prepping myself for all that we have coming in the next few months. 2014 is likely to be the most challenging, yet fulfilling for the boy and I. We are finding our way down an unknown path and are creating excitement and anticipation in equal measures. We always know just how to surprise our family and do things our own way. It’s what I cherish most about our relationship, and we plan on taking these steps in the exact manner we handle everything else. Plenty of advice and help have been hurtled in our direction and we are grateful for every bit of support, but making our own rules has always been our way. I can’t wait for us to start this journey, finding out how to mold our lives to fit our new addition. I don’t fear change, I embrace it, and I’m ready for us to push boundaries to create our ideal life.

I have been craving fields strewn with masses of wildflowers, cold breezes tickling my scented skin, assortments of decadent chocolates paired with steaming hot chamomile tea, and staying tightly snug with the boy. This birthday, I was in the mood to forgo parties and champagne for cupcakes, ice cream, and kisses. We meandered through the streets hand in hand, stopping momentarily for delicious bites of satisfying treats and glimpses of fresh air. The first peaceful celebration in awhile, but finishing the day with ice cream and the boy in bed was the best possible ending.
