Taking time to soak up every last moment before our holiday ends. We are far enough out of the city to be immersed in natural greenery, still peaceful water, and stunning hillside scenery. I will miss the warm serene air, endless hospitable sunshine, and the deep honest laughter that rings throughout each family dinner. Plans are in the works to make our time here far more frequent..and I’m already anticipating our hopeful future.

Shanghai Baby

Sorry for the brief blogging break! I have been on my first visit to the beautiful city of Shanghai and have barely found a moment to sleep, so photographing an outfit or turning on my computer was a little out of the question. Trying to cram sights, fun, and food into three days while trekking through extreme heat is not an easy task. We managed to squeeze with the masses to Shanghai’s World’s Fair, gorged on traditional sweet cuisine far too many times a day, strolled through a cluster of skyscrapers, sipped cocktails at the world’s highest bar, and throughly explored Shanghai’s electric nightlife. I have never walked more or been so overwhelmed by humidity and heat, but every moment was enjoyable. The boy and I are already planning what to try out on our next visit.

And on a fashion note…I have recently fallen in love with quirky, art influenced designer, Olivia Rubin. Her dresses are playful and girly with just the right amount of sophistication. This dress manages to be structured and fitted, but still feels light as a feather. Definitely a lifesaver in this summer humidity. Get one on sale now at my-wardrobe.com!

if only it could be right now

After contemplating evening plans and deciding our skin probably needed a break from the sun, the boy and I headed to the city for shopping and a random date night. Luckily traffic was minimal and the drive from my Dad’s resort to Hong Kong’s city centre only occupied an hour of our time. We joined the masses in Causeway Bay for boutique hopping and bubble tea before heading to our favourite Korean bbq. I don’t really know why I love the ritual of selecting small garnished plates of marinated fare and grilling it at my own table, but I look forward to it each time. Kinda like an outdoor barbecue, but far more delicate.

I am now searching for a suitable hair salon in Hong Kong…I can’t deal with this grow out for another day. Slightly nervous to try somewhere new.

Born in the USA

My 4th of July was a plethora of food, booze, music, and laughter all under a blanket of fairy lights. Both my brother and I were born and bred in the U.S.A. but now live on opposite sides of the world. I can barely recall the last time I celebrated America’s independence day due to the fact that I am never present in my home country, but since this year we happened to be together, the decision was made to celebrate our Americaness. Tim (my brother) drove to Walmart and Shenzhen’s only speciality American store to acquire every 4th of July bbq necessity one could imagine, including Coors light. Thanks to his chef skills our giant poolside spread provided everything from burgers and hot dogs to his famous homemade potato salad. He even managed to make sure all the appropriate condiments were available. The night ceased after every morsel had been cleared, more than one person had been forced into the pool, and we had all sufficiently embarrassed ourselves by singing along to a festive mix.

all blurred into one

Roasting on the top deck of our yacht pining for a slight breeze, the sweet relief of ice cold watermelon hitting your parched tongue, running through scorching hot sand to reach a welcoming warm ocean, napping to the lull of soft music and evening air, satisfying a ravenous hunger with light barbecue fare while witnessing the sun melt into the sea, returning home to a dark night with hot skin and salty hair only to find immediate slumber.

We have been living at the beach for the past few days and I am finding it slightly difficult to pry myself away from the enjoyable routine. The cloudless blue sky and ridiculous heat make for ideal beach club/yacht conditions so we plan on soaking up as much as possible before our departure. Unfortunately this means the non existence of any beauty product unless sunblock counts, and an outfit only consisting of Missoni bikini/denim shorts/white loose tank. I managed to set aside my laziness for ten minutes to take pics of this scuba inspired dress, so hope you guys like!

because you keep me coming back for more

I could not be asking for a more relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Our days are suitably long and lazy, and each night has been a little crazier than the next. My only complaint is the week seems to be passing far too quickly, and we are seriously dreading the finale of our three week getaway. Until then I am savouring every moment spent with family, delicious Chinese fare, and the calm serenity that comes with my Dad’s home. We have plans for a Hong Kong shopping spree and a three day break in Shanghai, but for today we will be partaking in a sun drenched yacht excursion, and a sunset filled beach barbecue. I will do my best to avoid sizzling in the extreme heat.

As soon as I spotted these Ash wedges from the Sarenza collection, I was immediately convinced they would slot perfectly into my ever growing shoe collection. Not only do they allow the ability to walk for miles without pain, but also seem to work with most of my summer wardrobe. A definite must for any height craving fashionista.

anticipating your arrival

Summers in Hong Kong are completely unpredictable when it comes to weather. The climate can easily sway from a violent thunder storm to a cloudless sun filled day within hours. The boy and I always take full advantage of both scenarios, huddling in bed with movies and room service while it pours, or spending the entire day lounging poolside when the clouds depart. It just so happens storms have dominated since our arrival so we have definitely indulged in our fair share of spa treatments, movie marathons, afternoon naps, and late night parties, but now that the sweltering heat and sun have come to greet us we have several days of pool, yacht, and beach in our immediate future. Extremely excited to live in my bikini for the next few days.

Just a quick post before start our evening out. About to devour an adventurous meal in China, then off to an outdoor pub to join our “English but living in China” friends to support their team in the World Cup. Should be fun if the humidity doesn’t kill me.
