Hope you all indulged in plenty of food, love, laughter, and drink these past few days! I know I did 😉 Christmas dinner is always a pretty chilled, intimate event at our home, so the table and decor is always far dressier than the ones who are dining. Makes it easier to lounge around with vintage wine and desserts après meal. Laying low tonight before we head back to the city and New Year chaos begins. I heart this time of year!

We spent Christmas Eve shopping with the masses and selecting our own lobster, giant prawns, scallops, abalone, and whole red mullet for a seafood feast at my Dad’s Hong Kong restaurant of choice. After satisfied appetites and a few too many bottles of bubbly we took to the jammed streets and dropped in for an afterparty at the city’s premiere private member’s club, Kee. Apparently Christmas Eve here is a prelude to New Years Eve. Busy streets were police patrolled and traffic was diverted for a special countdown at midnight to bring in Christmas day. Any reason for a party right?! Getting ready for a quiet family meal and a 6kg turkey… Merry Christmas!!!!

Dinner and drinks with my bro before he departs to the U.S. for the holidays. We managed to spend the evening eating and drinking our way through Hong Kong, our final meal being a huge McDonald’s delivery at 2am…yes they deliver! The boy and I will be remaining in Hong Kong for Christmas and are heading to a surprise location to bring in the New Year. More details later!

Another year older…

Yesterday was my actual birthday, and the family and I decided to do a chilled home celebration after a serious party fueled weekend. The boy and I have slightly obscure living arrangements while residing in Hong Kong. Half the week we immerse ourselves in the buzz of Hong Kong and sleep at our modest one bedroom apartment, which perches directly in the centre of all the action. We spend little time at home, and take full advantage of all the restaurants, bars, and shops the packed island offers. The other half we escape an hour outside the city to my Dad’s “place” where much of my family now live. Describing this sanctuary is almost impossible, but the easiest comparison would be a five star all inclusive resort, except only open for our family and friends. Here the boy and I descend from city life, indulge in enormous meals, and freely delve into every spa treatment on offer. Our room is so serene we often find it impossible to wake and leave the bed. I am enjoying the balance of excitement and relaxation.

just the way we like it

Christmas week has begun, which in my family means plenty of parties, family reunions, and even more food and drink. We are far more into the celebration aspect than the entire present exchanging ritual. I guess in a HUGE family unwrapping millions of gifts are left to the children. Once you are old enough to join the party, daily doses of champagne and lobster will suffice. I am more than happy with my yearly birthday/holiday shopping spree with my Dad, and am honestly a little too picky to shop for without a large amount of direction. The boy and I also gave up gift exchanging after we passed the formalities of first year dating. Choosing beach vacations together and joint shopping excursions to treat ourselves are far more appealing than unwrapping something you aren’t sure you ever wanted. I guess we see the holidays as an opportunity to receive happiness, love, and great memories. Any way to create that atmosphere is adequate, presents aren’t always necessary. So there you are, our unconventional Christmas.

Spending our time unpacking heaps of belongings, battling jetlag, devouring our favourite Chinese dishes, napping excessively, settling into a new job, and party planning for the millions of birthdays my family have in the month of December (mine included). Christmas is nearing so let the festivities begin. Party number one takes place tonight!

It is never a good sign if you are ready for bed by 3:00pm. Jetlag and I definitely do not mix. On the plus side, the boy and I have had a very productive 48 hours in Hong Kong. Already joined friends for dinner, met business contacts over whiskey, made plans for Christmas Eve, sampled a new hotpot restaurant, and purchased a pair of Sam Edelman “Zoe” boots at a ridiculously reduced price. Now I must nap before joining my Dad for dinner…more to update later!!

what i’ll miss most…

browsing the insane vintage selection and spying ultimate style mavens at Friday’s Portobello Market, delicious and cozy Notting Hill pubs and bistros, the buzz and adrenaline rush that comes from shopping at Topshop Oxford Circus, cute neighborhood cafes and minuscule news agents who sell every international fashion magazine known to man, bloody marys and white wine on the side of Electric Brasserie’s delectable burger every Sunday afternoon, Saturdays with the boys in Brighton, dining outdoors on an abnormally warm spring day, Shoreditch House and Bungalow 8, food shopping at the daily fresh market and cooking dinner with the boy, midday coffee meet-ups that turn into wine filled nights, the treasure chest otherwise known as My-Wardrobe’s showroom, 3am kebab runs with the boy after a raucous night out, the best high street shopping I have ever experienced, streets full of rainbow coloured vintage homes, being just a hop away from Paris, and of course each and every one of my friends who have made this wonderful place a loving home.

Goodbye London…See you in February 😉

simply the best

Moving day is nearing, so the boy and I went on our usual Notting Hill date night for the final time before departure. Mediterraneo is a must dine spot for us, and we make a point to visit at least once a month. If you are searching for authentic Italian cuisine, I don’t think you’ll find better in the UK. I can never resist the lobster spaghetti, the boy is obsessed with their steak tagliata, and they seriously have the most mouthwatering desserts (and I’m not a dessert person). After dinner we almost always visit the same bar, E&O. The barstaff are now some of our best friends, yummy cocktails, and there are often style icon sightings. So now you know our favourites. Please go and keep them company while we are away!!

Sorry for the lack of pics of our night, but we always forget to use the camera once the conversation is rolling…
