Growing to love simple looks by day, becoming increasingly obsessed with revolving belt sushi (so much better than what you find in England), and looking forward to constant short trips away.  The boy and I have been spending our days perusing shops and our evenings sampling new drinking joints and dining locations.  So far we have discovered almost all Japanese places are delicious, all you can eat is not a good idea unless the prices are sky high, happy hour is a must and can be found at nearly every bar/restaurant, and fine French dining definitly exists in this packed city.  Now all I need is to locate a suitable hair salon in the near future.  I haven’t had more than a wash/blowdry in over six months, but giving up several hours of my life to sit in one place is just so hard.  Does anyone else find hairdressers incredibly tedious?  Until tomorrow…xoxo

The boy and I spent the entire day wandering around Hong Kong, walking for over six hours and pausing to shop at any opportunity.  We fell for more than one boutique in Causeway Bay’s Fashion Walk and decided coffee and cake breaks are literally essential.  I completely forgot how enjoyable it can be to walk for miles when the air isn’t absolutely freezing.  Now it’s time for our Sunday evening date night…will share my new purchases later!!

The small things that make me smile are probably what make me happiest.  Sweet unexpected emails, sitting comfortably with the boy for hours on end without having to say a word, the way my little sister giggles with delight, a perfect cappuccino, coming across my dream pair of shoes, drunken i love yous when I least expect it, quiet dinners with the boy full of wine and laughter, eating daily doses of salmon sashimi, watching my beautiful cousin taking care of her sweet baby, preparing for a night out while gossiping and dancing with my favourite girls, and meeting delightful strangers who will soon be life long friends.

I hope there are little wonderful moments making your days brighter.

My friends over at NTN Fashion allowed me to delve into their amazing samples and try on a few pieces from their upcoming “Hollywood” collection.  The brand focuses on high-end leather products sourced from the best Italian manufacturers.  If like me, you are always dying for butter soft leather jackets, leggings, and shorts…you will be in heaven.  I of course went for the ultra versatile biker jacket, and anything with an accentuated shoulder.  Check out their website and blog for more looks and info!

Spending our days lazing in bed until noon, sampling different cuisines come lunch, half attempts at work and gym visits each afternoon, full hearted attempts at obtaining a daily facial and massage, accompanying my father to huge dinners and floods of wine come nightfall, and sipping whiskey into the early hours while witnessing the creative process of traditional Chinese art.  This cycle will soon break once we return to the city.

There are homes that you return to throughout your life.  A place that is present regardless of the circumstances which surround you.  These streets, houses, restaurants, or hiding places don’t dissapear when you move, they have barely changed upon your return, and hold the memories you thought you had forgotten.  My grandmother’s home, at the epicenter of Taipei, holds this value for me.  After a tedious, long flight with an one month old infant, my father carried me down this street and introduced me to his ever present destination.  The house is consistently packed to the brim with my cousins, uncles, aunts, and millions of family friends who claim they have known me since I was born.  It is a place where I was a toddler, where I left for eight years and could never imagine it’s familiarity when I returned, it is where I became best friends with my pack of cousins, and possesses the kitchen which makes my mother’s favourite onion pancakes.  It is where I spent hot summers as a teenager, sleeping through earthquakes and escaping at 4am to visit the McDonalds down the street.  The phone number has always remained the same, as has the lady with a cart who still sells flavoured ice on the side of the street.  It’s where I now return monthly with the boy and hope one day our kids will visit and play on the floor of the living room or sit around the gigantic round dining table, building lifelong relationships with their pack of cousins, eating the best Taiwanese food on offer.

new year, new resolutions.

i’m excited to spend the year travelling to new destinations, starting new business ventures, spending more time with family, acquainting with a new city, and meeting new friends.  attempting to reform myself through difficult resolutions isn’t really my thing.  i would rather plan to love more and enjoy more.  hopefully a better me will work its way into the process.

The boy and I spent the weekend in Taipei and welcomed 2011 surrounded by family, champagne, and splashes of light.  In 72 hours we survived on only 15 hours of sleep, learned impromptu New Years Eve plans are probably always best, ate more food than we thought manageable, trekked over 10 miles through taxi barren streets at 3am, agreed sales shopping is the only way to overcome an insane hangover, partied just as hard on January 1st as we did on December 31st, and decided short plane rides can be a very productive time for learning a new language.  Hope you are all loving 2011 as much as I am.  Happy New Year to all you lovely readers!!!

xoxo

Sorry I didn’t get a shot of my New Years Eve outfit, but when it gets busy I always forget 🙁 I’m sure I’ll wear the amazing net dress again soon!!

Last night turned out far messier than intended.  After a few too many glasses of wine during happy hour the boy and I went in search of a suitable venue to satisfy our sushi craving.  Sushi rolls and sake turned into glasses of whiskey with new friends, which progressed towards a hazy 3am memory of shots in an infamous nightclub.  I’m definitely paying for it today, but managed to get through sales shopping despite sudden urges to pass out.  Determination and a Zara sale can motivate me to do anything.

The boy and I are spending a few days in our Hong Kong apartment before jetting away on New Years Eve.  Within 24 hours we found a deliciously authentic French bistro, sampled yet another rooftop bar, devoured a three course lunch for under £5, and navigated through Central Hong Kong on foot via the ultra useful skywalk. I forgot the excitement that comes with making a new city your home.
