Just returned home from a gigantic meal and a little too much wine.  Think it’s an early to bed type of night.    I may need to partake in a tiny dose of pre-trip shopping despite full hearted intentions of not having overweight luggage.  Am researching a courier company that can return my laundry home after each destination.  I promise to not overspend on excess baggage. promise.

I think I must consistently have clothes in a suitcase.  My laziness gets in the way of fully completing the unpacking process before another trip comes along.  Sticking to one suitcase for three whole weeks is a very fine art, but I am determined to succeed.  And if I purchase too much, surely DHL will assist my plight in assuring each pair of shoes makes it home.  See you soon NYC, London, and Stockholm!! Please don’t be too cold!!

I’ll try for a dressier look tomorrow, but at the moment loose shorts and baggy jumpers are too comfortable to pass up.

More later!

Momentarily obsessing with casual looks and bare legs.

Also addicted to black coffee, Japanese food for every meal, digging through random Chinese markets, and spending as much time as possible outdoors.

More later!

Yesterday felt so much like Spring I couldn’t help but slide towards light colours and bare legs.  I’m soaking in as much of this weather as possible before I arrive in freezing New York City.  It’s weird how your mood and body can so easily shift into new situations.  From one climate to the next, from one language to another, and from one lifestyle to something completely new.  The boy and I have been here for just under two months, and despite being constantly busy, travelling every other week, and trying to adapt to all things foreign we are just starting to settle in.  Change is often great, but the unfamiliar can be very disconcerting.  To start your life again is as exhilarating as it is fear inducing.  We are beginning with the first block and building up, so it is time for new friends, new jobs, new languages, and a entirely new way of life.  In more ways than one, our day to day life has been made far easier than our London lives.  Menial tasks and worries have been dismissed, and assistance is at every corner.  But sometimes you yearn for the familiar, and we find ourselves craving more time alone or just a slower pace.  There are wonderful moments, and there are frustrating times but it all balances in the end.  For now we are enjoying the ride.

Vintage sheer shirt worn over H&M tank and Topshop sequin shorts.  H&M hat and Christian Louboutin heels.

Currently blogging lakeside basking in the delightfully sunny day.  My body is hating me for my raucous schedule, despite all efforts to treats of massages and facials when possible.  We have one week until New York and I am beyond ecstatic.   Will be arriving with a half empty suitcase so expect lots of shopping action!

The boy and I have discovered Chinese New Year is just a long week of drinking, eating, and gambling.  Every evening is a string of large gatherings and and even the most unexpected partygoers are up for a late night.  We have learned to wrap dumplings and play a million and one games that cause your bank account to suffer.  My family go pretty full force on the gambling front and the tables of cards, majong, and dice go from grandparents to the just learning to play children.  So tonight we’re going onto round three and my brother has decided to add beer pong to the list of activities.  Luckily our wallets wont be any lighter from that endeavour.  Wish me luck 😉

Chinese New Years Eve is over, but before I sift through the hundreds of images the boy captured, we decided to relive memories of our actual New Years Eve on December 31st in Taipei.  My cousin and her iPhone 4 managed to shoot the night in full animation.  So here we go:

Excited start to the night.  Family dinner is over and we are so ready to dance.
PhotobucketPhotobucket
Exited the club for a few minutes to witness the amazing fireworks at midnight.

Back to dancing and whiskey.  I could stay up all night!

Uh Oh… our feet hurt.  Bedtime!!

It’s freezing and there are no taxis in sight.  It may be a good idea to attempt the four walk home.  Surely a taxi will appear along the way.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Two hours later and the streets are still barren.  Screw the shoes.  Why am I not one of those girls who carries flats in her bag?!
Photobucket
An hour away from home and our legs have collapsed.  Lets seek solace in a random roadside restaurant.  I’m sure a taxi will just appear at the entrance.
Photobucket
Nevermind…we’re never getting home.  Lets eat and attempt to sleep on this table.  Goodnight.

*20 minutes later a two taxis did appear at the entrance…We’re just that lucky 😉

Leather jacket from China, H&M tee, Topshop shorts, and scarf from Portobello Market.

Life can often move at different paces, shifting seamlessly into each changing gear.  Sometimes I am falling full speed through experiences, while other stages of my life have left me in peddling on constant familiar ground.  I am happiest living two steps ahead, at a momentum where there is barely time to breathe.   It has always been my nature to dive into the unknown, avoid any mundane routine, and grab at each spontaneous proposition.  I guess that is my impatient nature peeking out.  Either way, I’m pretty sure the boy and I will have an equally exhausting yet refreshing year.

Versace leather jacket, Egoist sweater, Topshop shorts, Mango boots, and snood from random Hong Kong shop.

Spent the past few nights devouring the most delicious authentic Peking duck, sampling a variety of weirdly named shooters, and preparing for Chinese New Year.  Traditional envelopes are currently being stuffed with money, red and gold decorations are prettily scattered throughout the grounds, and each entrance has been neatly framed with petite orange trees.  Having grown up in the United States, Chinese New Year was taken far less seriously and many traditions were easily missed.  Here our family approach the event will full force, so expect lots of homemade dumplings, huge round table meals, and plenty of happy reunions.  The boy and I are looking forward to celebrating the holiday for the first time in our new home.
