After visiting so many beautiful resorts across the Maldives, we’ve come to appreciate the islands that manage to balance effortless luxury with the natural beauty that makes this destination so extraordinary. Diamonds Thudufushi captures this perfectly. A small, lush island surrounded by endless turquoise waters and some of the most spectacular white sand beaches we’ve ever seen, it feels like stepping into a postcard, yet offers all the comforts of a five-star retreat.
Our Two Bedroom Overwater Pool Villa was absolutely stunning and easily one of our favourite family villas in the Maldives. Spacious, beautifully designed and positioned right beside the house reef, it offered uninterrupted ocean views and a generous private swimming pool. We loved spending lazy afternoons on our deck, watching the changing shades of blue, while the kids could head straight into the ocean to explore the incredible marine life. We even had a resident turtle who would pop up beside our pool.
Days were filled with adventures, from snorkelling excursions and swimming alongside turtles to dolphin cruises and sunset fishing, which Ever and River particularly loved. The resort has an excellent dive centre, and its knowledgeable team made every excursion memorable. Back on the island I lounged in the sand, swam in the ocean, enjoyed the privacy of our villa, and always started my evening with a captivating sunset and aperol spritz in hand.
Dining was huge highlight. Maakana Restaurant served one of the best buffets we’ve experienced, with incredible handmade Italian pastas, freshly baked pizzas, grilled seafood and beautiful desserts. Main courses were prepared to order in the open kitchen and the cakes were homemade and irresistible. Aqua Overwater Restaurant was equally impressive for its authentic Italian cuisine and spectacular setting. We also loved the weekly Maldivian Night, dining beneath the palms with our feet in the sand. Service never faltered, each glass of wine was served with a smile and the chefs always welcomed our children remembering their preferences and ensured everything was prepared with care.
The all-inclusive package was wonderfully generous, with excellent wines, cocktails and delicious snacks available throughout the day. As a family with children, not being worried about hungry kids after busy days in the ocean was a bonus. We loved the quality of everything included and feel this truly sets Diamonds apart from other all-inclusive options.
What stayed with us most, however, was the warmth of the staff. Everyone remembered our family, and the grill chef even anticipated Ever’s favourite dishes. Snorkelling experiences were engaging, and safe, and our children were able to roam the island, play board games at the bar, or grab a snack with plenty of the team nearby to offer a hand or buggy ride back to the villa. Despite its luxurious amenities, Diamonds Thudufushi retains a wonderfully intimate, welcoming atmosphere where the children felt completely at home.
It’s exactly the kind of natural island paradise we love retaining Maldivian charm and beauty while elevating with an unobtrusive luxury touch.
