What is the easiest way to place the material aspects of your life into labeled cardboard boxes? How do you evaluate the worth of an item? While I sit amongst piles of my “things” contemplating the value of each belonging, I wonder what causes a possession to hold sentimental meaning. In an era where all photographs are digital, where music and films reside in our phones, and fashion can often be cheap and disposable, is anything irreplaceable? Sometimes I wish my life was recorded in black and white, all my music needed a record player, and garments were one of a kind. I wish my answer wouldn’t be “I would save my iPhone and Macbook in a house fire.” My cherished items include my sweetly vintage engagement and wedding rings, the pink strawberry scented teddy bear I received from the boy in our rocky dating stages, and old school scrapbooks crammed with non-digital photos. And of course my something Versace, something Chloe, and something Dior. What would you save?
